2003 - Founded
About Van Martin Roofing and our team
Van Martin Roofing was founded in 2003 by Doug Van Dyke, who started the company out of a single truck. What started as a one-truck operation is now a full team of Home Inspection Specialists, Field Managers, and W-2 installers working across Ohio. We are still family-owned, still headquartered in the Miami Valley, and still answering the phone ourselves.

What we stand for, and what we won't
We wrote these for ourselves before we wrote them for the website. Our team is hired, trained, and reviewed against these five core principles every day.
Humble Confidence
Know your worth, but serve others first. Humble confidence means walking into every interaction knowing your craft and team are genuinely excellent, letting that speak for itself. No overselling or defensiveness, just quiet, capable professionalism that earns trust before a word is spoken.
In practice: A Home Inspection Specialist recommends a repair over a full replacement when the roof still has years left, because doing right by the customer is how we earn long-term trust.
Investing in People
See who they can become. We invest our time, energy, and trust in people who share our values and show real potential. We believe in truth in love, being kind enough to be honest when feedback is hard, remaining clear and direct without ever being cruel.
In practice: A struggling team member gets dedicated coaching, clear expectations, and direct support to build a growth plan together.
Grit
Find a way, always. Grit is what happens when the plan hits reality and you keep moving forward anyway. It is the determination to solve problems with creativity, persistence, and zero self-pity. We find the next step forward on every job.
In practice: When a crew encounters unexpected structural issues mid-install, they problem-solve on-site, communicate immediately with the homeowner, and complete the job correctly.
Hunger
Never done growing. Hunger is the internal drive that does not need to be managed from the outside. It shows up early, stays late, and takes true ownership of every project.
In practice: A team member finishes their daily schedule early and actively steps in to assist teammates or refine project details.
Continuous Learning
Better never stops. Continuous learning means we never assume we have fully figured everything out. Every job and challenge provides insight to make us sharper, faster, and more valuable to the homeowners we serve.
In practice: After complex projects, our team debriefs what went well and what can be improved, feeding those lessons directly into our installer training.
Three things
homeowners actually notice.
Experience
Over 3,000 completed residential and commercial roofs since 2003. Every Home Inspection Specialist on our team brings real roofing experience before ever walking your property to quote a job.
Process
We wrote our installation process down in detail, with clear checklists and mandatory photo documentation for every single step. Installers train rigorously against these standard operating procedures before working independently on a roof.
Service
Real phones, local Ohioans, and Field Managers who are on-site when your project begins. We keep our communication direct so you always know who is accountable for your home.
