How Long Does Roof Installation Take? Timeline & What to Expect
Replacing a roof can sound stressful. So, here’s what to expect and how we make the roof installation process quick and easy.
In this article, we will discuss in depth what an installation day looks like. Here’s an insight into what the installation process looks like:
Roof Timeline: Day One Preparation and Tear-Off
To best prepare the crew and efficiency of the installation, material may be placed at the property 24-48 hours before the official start time.
On installation day, the crew arrives early, usually around sunrise. The initial step is protecting your property by laying down tarps around your landscaping, placing plywood over windows and doors, and moving anything that could be affected by debris during the process.
The next step is to remove your old shingles. During this process, we inspect the wood beneath your shingles for signs of soft, rotted, or damaged wood. If this is the case, we replace it right away. This gives your new roof a strong foundation to be built on.
Midday Installation Begins
The next step in the process is to begin installing the underlayment, which acts as a waterproof barrier. After any rotted wood is removed and the foundation is strong, the underlayment is laid to prevent damage to your roofing foundation.
Shingle or metal panel installation then begins. The transformation happens fast; by lunchtime, most homes have a completely new look.
Cleanup and Finishing at the End of the Day
By late afternoon, many roofs are finished. Cleanup happens throughout the entire process of installation, with magnets rolled to collect nails, sweeping completed, and your yard ensured to look as good as it did before we arrived.
For larger or more complex roofs, such as those with steep slopes, multiple layers, or skylights, the timeline may be adjusted slightly. These may take an extra day or two to ensure quality craftsmanship tailored to your home’s design. Even then, our crew plans carefully so your home is never exposed overnight.
What to Expect During the Roof Installation Process
Throughout the entire process, you are able to stay updated on what is happening, when, and why. This is your home, and we treat it that way. When the job is complete, you are left with a brand-new roof and a lifetime of worry-free protection.
